Healthy Sweet Bites

I was born with a massive sweet tooth.

And now that I am on this health journey - have replaced wheat completely, have mostly moved away from white rice, eat millets and brown rice with prefect happiness - even then my sweet cravings don't go away. In fact, I feel desperate to have an ice cream even after a full meal or more.

What's the solution? Have some healthy desserts handy so that I don't end up ordering the unhealthy stuff. So, here goes:

Oat bites

Came across this in a youtube short - tried it, and it's good. Simple, but definitely takes longer than 5 minutes to make (oats to roast, chocolate to melt, final setting). And I felt that its shelf life is not more than a week. But a recipe worth making frequently, nevertheless. Liked it for using flaxseeds - i will also try melon/sunflower seeds in future.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 50g dates (deseeded)
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
  • 2 tbsp almonds
  • 50 g melted chocolate

Roast the oats in a dry pan, and keep aside. Roast the almonds, then flaxseed, and finally coconut as well (very lightly). Mix everything in a blender along with dates. Take out and shape them in cupcake mold/cubic molds.

Variation: I also added 5-6 Brazil nuts along with almonds to the roasting pan. Also, the mixture was not sticky enough, so I added half the melted chocolate to the mix before molding them. Rest was poured on the top.
